The unplanned haircut

I knew that this day would come. One day I would walk in and find one of my kids with scissors giving themselves a makeover. But for some reason I seriously thought that I had sailed right on by that phase scott free. That was very wishful thinking on my part! A couple weeks ago I walked into my bedroom and found Tyler with scissors and his bangs were GONE! I was in total shock and asked him a question that I obviously knew the answer to..."DID YOU JUST CUT YOUR HAIR??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" He looked at me right in the face and said, "no I didn't." Can you believe that? Not only did he cut his hair but he lied to me about it while he was holding the evidence in his hand! At that point I was more furious because he lied to me. Then I started to tell him that now we have to buzz his whole head off and then he started crying and freaking out. I don't think he understood what I was meaning because he thought that I was going to cut his head off. Needless to say we both needed to calm down and relax. Thank goodness that hair grows back and that this was Tyler and not Ashlynn! Dave came home and we went out back and started to buzz his head. We had to use the shortest guard because Ty cut his bangs so far down. Dave needed to get around his ear and took off the guard. Ty moved and Dave went right up the side of his head! It was taking everything in me to not freak out again. Dave tried to go around and fix it but it just wasn't working. So he had to finish his whole head with no guard... he pretty much looked like he had cancer or something. It was so sad and even more sad when Tyler looked at himself in the mirror. He was so embarrassed and scared to go to school. Hopefully now he learned his lesson to never mess with scissors again! He wouldn't let me take a picture of the finished look so I will have to post those later. It's been a couple weeks now and his hair has filled in and looks pretty good.

He is all ready for summer now...plus I told him he can swim faster now! I swear it is never dull around here....EVER!

Spring Break

This was our Spring Break in a nutshell. We weren't able to go out of town anywhere so we improvised. I think we did a pretty good job because at the end of the week I was exhausted and the kids had fun!
Monday~we went to Golfland with some friends from church.
Tuesday~we went swimming at my sister's with Shauna and her kids.
Wednesday~we went to the Zoo with Harmony and her kids.
Thursday~we went swimming again and went to the park.
Friday~we went to Golfland again but this time with Shauna and her kids.
Saturday~I was tired...so we were lazy that day.
Sunday~still tired and still lazy.
It was a fun and eventful week. It's nice that we had so many things that we could do locally and not spend very much money...that's always nice!

Easter Egg Hunt

In the community where we live they have a Easter Egg Hunt for everyone. We haven't ever gone to something like this and it was so much fun. I invited my good friend Shauna to come with her kids. Her husband was at school and mine was working. So we kept each other company and it worked out really well! They had a whole program planned and we ended up being there for a couple hours. We all met over by the water to watch the Easter Bunny come in on a boat. The kids thought that was cool! Then they had all of us gather in this open field in a huge circle. They brought out tons on eggs and scattered them all over the field. It was so great because they had different age groups that went together and brought out new eggs for each group. The kids went crazy...it was hilarious! They had face painting, balloons a magic show, and the Easter Bunny of course. Ashlynn wasn't too excited about sitting on his lap so I ended up sitting instead!

It really was a fun morning!

Painting Eggs

Okay, so I know these pictures are way late! I am a little behind on a few posts but oh well right? The kids always love doing this and have so much fun. We were watching my niece Kylee that night so she got to help a little too! For all of you BYU fans you will appreciate Dave's egg...go Cougars!

Look Out Below!!!

A few weeks ago early one morning we had some little visitors. Dave and I were in our room getting ready for the day and all of a sudden we heard this huge SPLASH in the pool! It seriously sounded like a person had fallen in the pool and we both freaked out thinking that one of the kids got into the pool. But then we were thinking that is impossible because everything is locked and the kids are watching cartoons. So we look outside and saw these little guys. What a relief! It took us a little while to get them out of the yard but they eventually flew away. Crazy! It was defiantly some good entertainment and the kids thought it was so cool that ducks fell from the sky and landed in the backyard.

Cute little Ashlynn

Ashlynn had her ballet and tap class yesterday. She finished her class and we were walking down the hallway. She walked up to the drinking fountain and pushed the handle...nothing came out. She kept pushing it for a minute even though I was telling her over and over that it didn't work. Being the stubborn mule that she is, she was still going to try. Finally she looks at me with a bit of a mean look..."MOM THIS DRINKING FOUNTAIN NEEDS BATTERIES!!!" Oh this little girl makes me laugh! Love her!

Watch Out...these things are dangerous!

Oh my this picture makes me laugh!!!! Poor woman! Anyway, I have a story to share...so yesterday I was down the street at a neighbors with some friends that were visiting for the week. Sonja, Linda, Sandy and I are sitting in the driveway talking and watching our kids and grandkids play together. Tyler finds a hula hoop and tries to figure it out. Sandy (who is a childhood friend that Dave grew up with) tries to show Tyler some tricks with the hoop. Tyler goes off and is trying to figure it all out. I'm sitting there talking and all of a sudden...BAM!!!!!! I just put my hands over my face and was thinking very quietly to myself, "what in the crap was that!!!???" Oh and, "wow this really hurts! This was totally one of those moments where everyone just stares at you because they don't know what else to do. It really is funny now that I think about it and when I share the story with others!
So, Tyler threw the hula hoop and was trying to spin it to make it come back to him. Well it didn't come back to him! Instead it hit me right square between the eyes and my nose. Holy Hannah it hurt. Poor Ty was so embarrassed and felt so bad that he just put his little head in my lap so of course I had to keep my cool. Needless to say we packed up our things and our visiting time was over. This is just a little warning for all of you hula hoopers.......watch out because these things can get ya!!

Easter Sunday

Here is a recent picture of our little bambinos. We took this right after church on Easter Sunday. It worked out good because I told the kids that they had to take a picture before they could go inside and see what the Easter Bunny had left them. A little bribery never hurt anyone right?! I can't believe how fast the kids are growing up. Before I know it the school year is going to be over and we will be in the blistering summer heat! I must be training these kids pretty good though because I didn't even tell them how to pose...they did it all on their own. Ashlynn's personality is pouring out and she is such a crack up! We love our kids!

Backyard full of Memories

I woke up this morning feeling very emotional. I don't know if this ever happens to anyone else so I will explain. I have only had less than a handful of people that I've been very close with pass away. The most recent has been my Grandpa and the first was a family friend/practically brother who passed away 3 years ago. Every once in a while I will have a dream about my friend. Ever since my Grandpa has been gone I have been hoping that I will dream about him too. You know when you just wish you could see their face again and visit with them? I have a picture of my Grandpa and I in my scriptures. When I'm done reading I will just sit there for a minute and look at this picture. This morning I woke up feeling like I had been around my Grandpa or close to him. But I don't remember ever seeing him.
I had a dream that I was standing in my grandparents backyard in Mesa on Jarvis. I was standing close to the back door and just looking around. I don't really have many memories until I'm about 10 or 11 years old. But I remembered this...so clear. My sisters and I used to play back there and we thought it was the best. We used to get into the garden and into the blackberry bushes. Oh those blackberries were yummy! There was a swing set on the other side of the garden and we used to swing on that forever. We would try and swing so high and get higher and higher. There were grapefruit trees back there that seemed at the time like a jungle. We would climb all the trees and have fun for hours in seemed! Sometimes we would even sneak into my Aunt Lexine's bedroom and snoop around in her things. We thought she was the coolest... most popular and beautiful thing ever! We would sneak into the freezers in the back of the house to find home made fruit leather that my Grandma made. We ate so much of that sometimes we would get sick. I just remember standing there and being flooded with an enormous amount of memories in that backyard. Most of all I remember the feelings I was having. I was overwhelmed with the feeling of love. I felt like I was with my Grandpa or that he was really close by.
When I woke up this morning I was bummed because I wanted to go back to that moment...I just wanted to go back. But I am so thankful for this moment. I have been very blessed today to have this feeling of love with me through out this whole day. I have been very grateful for today and especially for today being Easter. I have been able to reflect on a lot of things that are very special to me and still very tender. I have had all of these thoughts and feelings in my mind all day today and I just needed to get them out. This whole blog has really turned into my journal. I don't usually get very personal about myself but I couldn't help in sharing this today.
I am thankful for today because I have been able to reflect on the Savior and his sacrifice for me. I know he is mindful of me and I can feel of his love for me. I feel very blessed and loved. I'm so grateful for the dream that I had and the feelings I was having...in a backyard full of memories.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter to everyone! Hope you are all enjoying this beautiful Easter Sunday and spending time with loved ones. We have had a wonderful day so far and look forward to the rest of it! It's been fun doing all of the traditions with the kids. We are extremely grateful for our children and feel very blessed. We're grateful for moments like these when we have the opportunity to teach our kids what this day really means. Tyler is understanding that it's not all about candy and finding eggs...today is about our Savior.
